Gateway Church (Mt Edgecombe) has been ministering in the Greenbury area for a number of years.  In 2013 a survey of each household within this 6,000 strong community had been conducted and Gateway Church had a list of household numbers, employment rates, specific needs, etc.  Greenbury is well-known as one of Durban’s hardest hit drug areas, and is commonly known as the High Chaparral.

The need of the Greenbury community is quite extensive and Gateway Church decided that the best way to serve the community was to be placed directly inside the community.  As such, in May 2013, the Gateway Church Greenbury was officially opened.  The mission of the local church is to change the community from the inside out.

It was through the serving of the community that a number of needs continued to be identified.  We felt that the church needed to continue focusing on the spiritual needs of the community and another organisation be established that could address the community needs in a holistic manner.  Speedy Kisten's (senior pastor of Gateway Church), vision for the community birthed - Meeting The Needs Foundation.  Meeting The Needs Foundation was established as a fully autonomous registered non-profit organisation.

Although, Meeting The Needs Foundation is a Christian-based non-profit company, the Foundation seeks to serve and help all people regardless of their personal religious beliefs.
